Re: Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis
Something I just remembered I wanted to mention here: The word "udesii" is translated "calm down/ relax." Typically, what we mean when we say "relax" is "a state without worry or concern." That's not practical or safe for our Mando'ade pals, nor would they likely enjoy it. I think it's more likely t...

Re: Wordplay, Euphemisms, Double-Meanings in Mando'a
Be'beskar'gam balyc gebyc. "His/Her armour is too tight." The meaning depends on the context: it can be used when a normally level headed person says something stupid, with the implication that the blood flow to this person's brain is getting cut off, or it can be humorously used to describe when s...

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically
Since the armour thing seems to be a recurring trend, I'd like to say something: mirshe'beskar'gam. Personally, I've always felt like part of being a Mandalorian would be more in a state of mind than body. Being present in the moment, knowing who you are and what you stand for, using your head as mo...

Re: Mandalorian Holidays
So I was thinking and figured I'd share (lucky ya'll ). Since it makes sense that wearing helmets naturally progressed with technology, masks and war paint were probably precursors. I could see facepaint as a factor in some of their holidays, at least or especially with children.

Re: Mando'ade Games
Well, games like tag, hide and seek, and jumping games such as hopscotch or jumprope are found all over the world. It's pretty likely that Mando'ade'ika (can you keep mashing words together in Mando'a?) would play these things. Boxing, drinking games, darts (I think this was mentioned in one of the ...

Re: Reading Mando'a
This is interesting. Give me a little while to catch up (I am a college student, which means two things: lots of work and no motivation), and I'll see if there's not some way I can help you out. I am very interested, since we're discussing spoken Mando'a, in a Mandalorian accent. They'll always be r...

Re: Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis
I meant more along the lines of which parents in a blended family get "custody." On a totally different note: since food is divided so clearly into 'this is what you eat in the field' and 'this is what you eat at home' that the word "perishable" doesn't exist in and of itself, so it might take some ...

Oh, harvesting DEFINITELY takes more than one day Never personally baled hay, but that by itself takes a good month or so.
I do like the idea of that being worked in, though, in amongst the comings and goings.

Space corn. Perfect. We'll add it to the list with blue milk and transparisteel. xD Needling aside, I really don't have a better name for it without mashing my keyboard, space corn works. I'd recommend fleshing out spring a bit more. Maybe add a coming-of-age ceremony for adolescent Mando'ade that ...

Mandalorian Holidays
So there aren't any Mandalorian holidays listed anywhere that I could find. A friend of mine and I brainstormed some up recently; we tried to make at least one for each season. All of these take for granted that Manda'yaim is an almost entirely rural world. Winter: This holiday takes place the week ...

Re: Mando Skraan and Recipes
Sensible. I agree that Mando food is just about practicality. Balyc , although I know of stew, I am curious about this gumbo stuff; could you elaborate? It is not around where I live, and I am always want to find new tasty mandakarla dishes. Gumbo is a cajun food. It's made with animals (typically ...

Re: Mando Skraan and Recipes
The focus on Mandalorian food is convenience and taste. You know what's convenient, freezes well, and is flavourful? Gumbo. Gumbo can be made using whatever is around, you can freeze it, and you serve it with rice, so it's very filling and high in carbs and protein. Really, I think most stews would ...

It already does, it's a nightmare. I'm working on the Bible translation project. I would LOVE to hear more about this. Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis
To be totally honest, I don't know if this would go here or in the culture section. The Linguistic relativity principle (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linguistic_relativity), also known as the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, discusses the relationship between thought and language: specifically the concept...
