Re: Words i accumulated or invented so far
In case anyone is wondering where some of their posts went, I split this discussion into two more topics, to cater more specifically to each discussion. The posts concerning alternate time measurement systems can now be found here: http://forum.mandoa.org/viewtopic.php?t=110 The posts concerning wri...

Re: Words i accumulated or invented so far
So in response to the time system Taljair found elsewhere online: The piece didn’t give the transcription or translation to the terms, so I figured they could be called like this: Second - kis’lun 30 seconds (minute) - kumana 32 minutes (hour) - getu 9 hours (period) - hakba 10 periods (day) - tuur ...

Re: Words i accumulated or invented so far
Huh. I was always under the impression that the bells system was confusing, but that opinion was based entirely on hearsay, as I never bothered to do the research. Looking at it in that chart on the navy.mil site, it looks so clear and simple. 7 watches, 5 of which are 4 hours, the remaining two 2 h...

Re: On Duty ...
That's a very good point, Vlet. Perhaps we should have different words for different kinds of duty. I'm sure the situation arises where one has to follow orders one may disagree with, in which case, the word for "I did it because I had to" would be more useful -- and expressive -- than "I did it bec...

Re: Words i accumulated or invented so far
As for telling time, I am personally a big fan of circular systems -- anything that divides well into 360 degrees (like the numbers 12, 24, 60; or in this case 366 days, so maybe 6, 61, 122, 183...but I don't like those numbers for practicality) -- the planet is circular, its orbit around the star ...

Taljair, I promise that your work will not mysteriously disappear, nor will it go unattributed. I will work out the code required to add your new vocabulary and to highlight it as user-contributed with a link to your user page or at least your name before having you actually share the file with me. ...

Re: Words i accumulated or invented so far
Kandosii, vod! Ori'vor'e for sharing. On be'Taljair new words: 1867 new words atop the 1161 terms from the original dictionary (excluding phrases) brings us to 3028 words, or almost triple the original vocabulary. Or am I misunderstanding? I did not take a count of every new word Taljair provided, s...

Translator Update
It has been nearly a year since the last time I changed any of the code behind the translator. I decided that has been too long. I just uploaded a patch for the translator which will enable it to leverage localStorage for caching of the dictionary data, allowing for faster pageloads and instant sear...

Re: Help finding/creating words!
Related words: medic - baar'ur needle, spike - bev health - jahaal tal - blood suck, absorb, draw up (liquid) - sooranir give - dinuir A "syringe" could be put together from "baar'ur" and "bev" -- as such a device is a tool of a medic or doctor, so we could simply do "be'baar'ur bev" (medic's needle...

Change for New Recruits (Verd'ika)
I have removed the requirement for manual approval of new users' posts in the Welcome thread; my hope is that this change will result in more active members, as fewer people will post, not see their post appear, post again, and then give up. Several weeks later when I finally realise there are new p...

Re: Online Meeting (?) - Either Voice or Text
I used to load up the chat every day just in case, and was working on a bot who could sit in the IRC channel and send notifications to anyone who subscribed for them when people were online; things then got super busy at work and it kinda fell off my to-do list.

Ke'taabi! Do what you need to do, ner vod. We're not going anywhere in your absence. Sometimes life can be a royal pain in the shebs, and that's ok. I've been so overloaded with work that I've not been sparing time for anything else besides chores and spacing out on TV, so you're not the only one wh...
