Weekly Mando'a Night

Unread post by screenaholic » 30 Dec 2013 02:14

So for the last couple weeks I've been holding a weekly Mando'a night in the Aliit Sol'yc IRC chat. So far only Vlet and MandoaOrg have shown up, but I would like to get more. If you are interested, just tell me what day and time would be good for you (make sure to include time zones.) I will try to schedule each week to get as many people in as possible, as well as attempt to rotate it so that everyone is able to attend occasionally.
The basic idea is we speak nothing but Mando'a as much as possible. This means constantly running back and forth between the chat and the dictionary to translate, resulting in very slow conversations, but it works. After only two sessions I'm already picking up words.
You can follow this link to see how to get into the chat room: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjvpMNDwq80
Leave a reply, let me know if you're interested, and what time would be best for you.

I love the idea! I have (most weeks) Sunday nights and Wednesday nights off.

I think having regularly scheduled chats is brilliant. If I can humbly suggest and offer, I may also do the same on off nights if I cannot participate in your chats. I know we've discussed this a couple times elsewhere, and it is my firm plan to do Mando'a chats starting around the New Year. I will probably utilize Skype, but am open to suggestions. This is in addition to what you are doing, and not to supplant or divert from that.

A second idea that just meandered into my head is that if we are doing text chats, we could start a 'chat' thread here in mandoa.org. I supposed it would be more like correspondence than chat, but you get the idea. Anything to further learning and usage, right?

Anyway, I will keep an avid eye on your chats, and gladly join in whenever I can.

Oya Manda! Mhi ke'hibiri Mando'a!

You are literally the first person to give an actual day they are open as opposed to "I'm open whenever," or "Wish I could join, but I'm usually busy."
We'll hold the next one this Sunday. Any specific time, or just general evening? Make sure to tell me your time zone.

I'm good for whenever.

XD

But seriously.

8PM ET means 7PM for me, which may be a bit early, but I'll try to swing it. I probably have nothing going on due to the weather, so I should be there. Worst case scenario I'll be on my mobile IRC client and thus be more of an observer than an active participant.

I'm down for the usual time/date in addition to the Sunday one, if they're not mutually exclusive. :)

Just realized I haven't set up this weeks Mando'a Night. I'm not available Saturday, how about same time as last week? Sunday, 8PM EST.

I am sorry I missed it, ner vod. Been fighting a cold, and I ended up sleeping right through the time slot. But, I do look forward to these Mando'a nights, so next week for sure!

Raeth, hope you feel better soon. Being sick sucks, no matter the illness.

Vlet, hope you enjoyed your time out with friends.

And I must apologise for my lack of activity this past week -- I've been occupying myself with my new side-project: another update to the translator.

So, I just got pulled into a MARSOC-led Arabic language course. Might take a couple years, even. No idea how much time I'll have for things. I might drop off the radar a bit if I get too caught up in studying.

Congratulations, vod.

If you end up being too busy to visit, we'll miss you. It'll be a bit quieter around here without you, and we'll look forward to your return.
