Informal Daily Chat Availability

Because the chat nights have been so difficult for everyone to make time for, I'd like to provide some other options for practising Mando'a on a more informal basis:

I can be reached at admin [at] mandoa [dot] org on Google Hangouts (chat from inside Gmail, the Google Hangouts app, Google Plus, or wherever). If you prefer a different chat service, I can make an AIM, Skype, YIM, or ICQ (or whatever) account and link that to my phone as well. Google Hangouts has a nice group chat feature built-in, which might be nice to avail ourselves of, as does Skype (I'm not very familiar with the capabilities of the other listed services in this regard).

Soon I will also be maintaining a vigilant presence on IRC as well, for those of you who prefer IRC or who would rather not have to register an account tied to a major advertising corporation like Google or Yahoo or Microsoft. IRC has issues maintaining a stable connection on my phone (it disconnects if my phone doesn't respond to a PING every 30 seconds, often forcing me to close the app and repeat the login/channel-joining process), but there are some options I'm looking into in order to work around that issue.

As I'm on droid, Hangouts is my messenger app. So it works really well for messaging for me...

We can chat about you, about me, what were both up to. Drop me a line.

Let's see how many people we can get online at once!

FYI I finally got around to configuring my Quassel server (IRC repeater) so I can access it from work, so I will be logged-in and paying-attention-to the IRC channel during working hours every day for the foreseeable future. If you want to join me for a chat, feel free to hop onto Freenode IRC #mandoa.org. If you want to know my personal Skype or Google Hangouts account addresses, send me a private message here and I'll share them with you. :D

I've decided I've been inactive for too long here, and would like to contribute more to this community -- if nothing else, it's doubly important now because our community is no longer quite as canon as it once was, and I perceive Mando'a as now at risk of dying off or being forgotten.

When I attempted to join, it was invite-only.

Osik. I thought I fixed that. I'll post back once it is no longer invite-only.

Ok I removed the invite-only mode flag and locked it so it should not get re-added. I think the problem is that I accidentally made it invite-only the first time around, then locked it, then when I removed it the last time I forgot to set the lock to keep it from coming back, so the next time I logged out and back in, it re-added the invite-only flag. IRC is confusing sometimes.

Now I'm getting in channel and getting messages "cannot send to channel" every time I say something

And that was because for some reason registered channels are set by default to disallow non-voiced users from speaking at all, meaning I would have to explicitly give you voice.

Apparently administering a registered IRC channel is complicated. It is made worse by the fact that I cannot figure out how to get ChanServ to just show me all the flags that are currently set on the channel; I can only set or unset flags.

After fixing the voice-restriction flag, I just tested with a random unregistered username via the web client and I was able to speak to the channel. So hopefully that means you will now be able to as well. Sorry this has been so hit-or-miss (more accurately: entirely miss).

Heh, no worries, vod. Activity is a welcome change even if it is a struggle :)
