Re: How would I say Hunter?

I found another one. Skira becomes Skirata when it is a name. Thoughts?

Re: How would I say Hunter?

I like it too, and I think that may be how the language was originally constructed. It flows well.

Definitely going to make this my personal rule.

Re: How would I say Hunter?

That's what I would think, Oyan. It flows nicely, and if the -an, -n is indeed how one denotes a name from the original word, it fits right in. Should we tentatively agree that the -an, -n endings denote a name? Ruusaan, Mirdalan, remove the -an or -n and you have the root word. Hmm. I think that I ...

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

I am hardly suggesting any Mando'ad be loyal to a country purely because he or she lives there. Actually, I was saying that a Mando buir would choose a place to live that would, hopefully, be a country worth fighting for if the need arose. So not any country. I like the idea of sticking to the trie...

Re: Wanting

Well, I haven't been studying Mando'a very long. Is copaani the only word like that in the lexicon so far?

Re: Wanting

True, but isn't the point of the language as much brevity as possible? Although I understand why you might use ni copaani; in Spanish which I am also learning they actually use double emphasis precisely like that to add a stronger emphasis. I don't have a problem with it, but from what I can tell it...

Re: Wanting

You don't need to say Ni copa bic. It's all summed up in the word 'copaani'. Hence you have 'copaani beskar', copaani geroya', 'copaani beskad' etc. This is one of the things I love about Mando'a: context is everything, and many of the words don't need to be changed to reflect number (none of them r...

Re: How would I say Hunter?

I think you're right, Vlet, but now I'm curious: what about the name Mirdalan? I mean, couldn't it be Oy'adla or Oy'adlan? That -n was always a little confusing for me.

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

I think it lies with the Resol'nare and your aliit, whatever form that takes. I'm sure there were many Mando'ade who were out of contact with Mandalore for long periods of time, and during that time what made them Mandalorians was how well they followed the Resol'nare.

I'm not sure that they do. Over on the Mandalorian Mercs boards there appears to be a goodly number of dalyce verde(not sure on the plural spelling).

Re: Tabletop Roleplaying without Tables (5th Ed. D&D?)

Tempest, ner vod, it is unfortunately looking like I won't be able to play. Life has gotten busy for me right now, and I just won't have the time. I hope some of the other vode here will take you up on that game.
If anything opens up for me, I will definitely let you know.

Does a Mando know how to shoot a gun?
I've read it, ner vod:) Won't be hard for me to make a character.

Re: Tabletop Roleplaying without Tables (5th Ed. D&D?)

Let's see where this goes.
It may be a little slow, as I only come on here every couple of days, but it sounds fun!
It would be fun to do it all in mando'a; I have just started learning, so I'm not really fluent yet, but this would be a good way to use the language more frequently, I think.

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

I'm going to build myself beskar'gam as soon as it is feasible. I've been trying to determine how many places I could wear it and get away with it..... I'm pretty sure I couldn't wear it to work, but everywhere else? Maybe if I didn't have any blasters with me. Most places probably have a no bu'cye ...

Pronunciation?

Are there any hard and fast rules for the pronunciation of mando'a? Specifically, how do you know which syllable to place the stress on, especially after pluralizing it?

Also, are their any specific words for yes/no? I'm guessing there probably are....just haven't found them yet.

I don't have any armor yet, but I do plan to get a mythosaur necklace.
I also carry useful tools too, figure that's just common sense. :)

Su'cuy gar vode.
I'm Ruus, and (like many others) I've been on here time and again before finally deciding to make an account. My dream is to become as fluent as possible, we'll see.
All the work people have put into this is definitely inspiring!
