I love it.

While I understand your point of view, I still plan to keep my personal headcanon.

Re: Death

I'm curious about how Mandos would view suicide. For example, would it be considered an act of cowardice, would it be considered an insult to life itself, would one shame his or her family by taking their own life, etc. I realize that this is not the original topic of this thread, but it interests ...

Re: How was your day?

It's been forever since I've been on. I got a dog on accident (I'm really more of a cat person, but I'm his favourite so I'm stuck with him). As best we can tell he belongs to the Bully Family. He's a terror, basically. I've also decided to look for a new job and I'm getting ready for the next semes...

Re: Mando Dog and commands

You could probably use "Ke'gev" for 'stay.' Ultimately, use whatever you can remember, because it's not like the dog is going to criticise your translations.
I hope you'll get to keep her!

Re: Beskar'gam cooling system

There'd also be a problem with the heat from that motion. I'd look into different materials for the bodysuit, and see what firemen, SWAT, etc uses in their uniforms to keep them cool, because they wear a lot of heavy stuff. Also, if it comes down to it and you just have to endure it, work on keeping...

Child birth and rearing

I've thought about this off and on recently; aren't you glad I'm sharing? Good ole Manda'yaim strikes me as a rather poor planet: it's described as mostly rural with lots of farmers, there seems to be one major corporation and it's going to have more factory workers than office workers, and bounty h...

Re: Gota'tuur (Birthday)

I imagine birthday/ Winter fete gifts are usually practical: new boots, shirts, maybe armour plates. Things like weddings or baby showers are specific gifts that people need.

Re: Manda

I dunno, the Manda is describe as a belief rather than a system. It's an Oversoul; there may be more people who call themseves Mando'ade as a lifestyle rather than religion.

Well, I'm glad about your paper.

There's a tornado warning right now, so I'm in the closet of a friend's parents with her whole family.

How was your day?

So it was pretty fun to hear everybody talk about what they were doing when we were all discussing Star Wars day, so I figured why not make a place where people could talk about the things going on in their lives everyday. If something interesting happened, or you need a bit of encouragement, or you...

Re: Star Wars day!

I'm trying to bash MATLAB into shape, the graphing is a little pants-on-head backwards. Ew. I've never used that, but I've watched people use it. It looks absurd. Also convinced the leader of the Bible study I go to to let me do a 'comparative religions' session - comparing the Resol'nare and the J...

I'm not showing up to help (sorry), but it occured to me that eventually someone's going to have to translate the Sermon on the Mount. Good luck getting that into Mando'a.

Re: Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis

I'm personally a fan of the cyclic view myself.

So looking at the themes in these answers, and considering the concept of the Manda, I'm seeing their culture as one where individuals see themselves as part of a system and can't divorce themselves from that idea that their actions influence others.

Re: Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis

Well, at least based on Fi's experience, they seem pretty caring with people with mental disabilities. Not sure how far that extends, but it's certainlly not a cold shoulder. I mean more their models for mental illness and what sorts of disorders their culture experiences. For example, PTSD. This i...

I asked this question because I'm considering their approach on and ideas about mental illness. Even the engineering students at my school don't use Chicago, and I'm a PSYCH MAJOR. Heck no (Hansen, 2016).
