Re: Preposition for "By means of"?

I'm not sure if you aren't looking at those sentences too much like English, though. If I were to say "I have a problem with extinction" I could use "with" or I could say something like "I have a problem of extinction" in Mando'a to make clear that the extinction is part of the problem and not its s...

Re: Mandalorian Time System

I have to say that I really don't know about shifts and schedules starting at 1 instead of 0, because all the time keeping I know with digital clocks start at 00:00 (thus, midnight). Still, I have included the option for the digital time shown to be set to start at 1 instead of 0 (via an option fiel...

Re: Mandalorian Time System

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. I looked again at the clock (and I noted that there seems to be something wrong with the watch hand anyway ...) and on the clockface it should be properly shown if I understand correctly. The first watch "ends" when the numerical/digital time reaches "0...

Re: Mandalorian Time System

Mh, I suppose that's right concerning the indexing (it's not something I have thought about, since I went with "clock" mentally and didn't really think about what it might mean). One might look at it like how centuries are counted, I guess, as the clock indicating only the finished watch, so the fir...

Re: Mandalorian Time System

Using some time on my hand and deciding that this would be a good way to try and adapt what I found in this tutorial on how to create a working analog clock in Excel, I thought I should make a "Mandalorian Clock". The clock is based on the design by Taljair, but the second hand moves along the same ...

Re: What were the Mandalorian Crusades called?

As far as I know, there is no official term. That's not necessarily surprising, though, since there's a lot of things we have no official words for which should have words. So, it isn't weird to not have words, since Mando'a is not a complete language and as a constructed language, it won't have mor...

Re: Transcription of loanwords

The phonetic approach would be my first guess as well, however, I am a bit unsure on the actual sounds that could be used (like, native Mando'a isn't supposed to have some sounds and yet they have symbols to render them ...) or that needed to be changed. Part of that might be because I am completely...

Transcription of loanwords

Is there some (existing) sort of consens on transcription of 'foreign' words? Like, how "Kaminoan" gets rendered as kaminii and "Jedi" becomes jetii - the former seems to be 1:1 apart from the ending (if -ii is used mainly for people and the final -o has been removed due to the -ii). However, the la...

Re: Parsing for Mando'a

Well, that's just it - I'm looking at affixes which attach to stems and roots. The reason why I'm looking at the affixes first (especially suffixes at this point) is because I simply can't determine which are the roots just yet. The program I'm using doesn't allow for a simply import of an Excel she...

Re: Mandalorian Time System

Okay, I know this thread is a bit older, but well ... I just thought I'd share my compact converting formula, maybe someone else can use it as well. I was thinking of incorporating the 'Mando' time in blogposts - of course, wanting to overwrite the system's timestamp would be quite a bit more diffic...

Re: Small phrasebook

These aren't exactly things that usually fit into a phrasebook (at least, as far as I know), so if this would be better elsewhere or as a singular thread about phrasal expressions ... I'm not too sure if the grammar is correct and I have taken a few liberties on how things are put together at times,...

Re: Parsing for Mando'a

So, I've been looking at how best to separate the different words on morpheme level. It isn't strictly necessary for the parsing to work, since Mando'a doesn't have that many classic inflections and instead of derivational affixes the words can simply be added as a completed word. This is the easies...

Parsing for Mando'a

So, as I've already mentioned in my introductory post, I'm working on a way to have an interlinear parsing done automatically for Mando'a (I'm using a freeware linguist software, but since I'm not a linguist and it's all in English, it's a bit of a guesswork at times - so feel free to point out anyt...

Re: List of Custom Words

So, I've tried to come up with a few words, especially when I found that there is a certain lack of actual food stuff (at least as far as I could see). There were some general terms, yet most were lacking when trying to describe anything in particular. These are more spur-of-the-moment things, so I'...

Re: Welcome to Learn Mando'a! (Post Here to Introduce Yourse

Hello there ;) English is not my first language, even though I am confident enough in my usage of it. My first language is actually German, so, concerning Mando'a, I am naturally inclined to 'speak' it more like it is written (rendering an ee as a double 'eh' or a long 'eh' instead of a 'i' sound), ...
