Re: Help finding/creating words!
I feel uncomfortable about nouns ending on 'r' becasue that's how infintives of verbs end.

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread
parkebi/darkebi parjir+kebise/dar+kebise + my unaccountable love for things that are connected somehow. XD OK. I'll pledge a life debt this fall and need some words. English was easy: My head and arm are yours to command My deeds are yours to decree and decide If my life or death can serve you, they...

Re: Help finding/creating words!
I'm pretty sure we had a word for 'life'?
Something with the oya-stem?
I have difficulties pledging my life without a word for it. Shab.

Re: Passive Voice, Gerunds, and Progressive Verbs
Currently wondering how many things there are you really cannot say in active vocie (as said by the Mand'alor -> as the Mand'alor said) and how a language without passive voice would look. (Not to mention social and psychological implications for said society. Everything is active, everything is don...

Re: Help finding/creating words!
For me the essence of regret is that you had the chance to do something* and you didn't. And no matter what, at the end of the day/year/life you will think 'had I only...' Sadness is definitely part of it. As are self-criticsm and the desire to have acted differnetly. Maybe the awareness that it si ...

Re: List of Custom Words
Sound good to me. Maybe align the two so that the same part is at the front/back each time? goy'alorir/goy'alor al'goyir/al'goy Though I won't lie and say that the sound of 'al'goy' clearly refers to THIS in my head... XD I had the idea of ge'alor/g'alor meaning 'almost leader', but that works bette...

Re: List of Custom Words
I am personally not for that solution because of the social implications. A good servant is not somebody who kisses your feet but one who can anticipate your needs and then is able to plan and act accordingly. A good servant keeps your back and head free. (I'd make a waiter-analogy now, but good ser...

Mando'a is certainly the more beautiful of those two languages. Back when I was into Trek there was no working Vulcan yet. I think there is now but, too late...

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread
A bummer. Oh, you meant in translation. ;) Same. Been there and asked myself that a lot. XD It should be some derivation starting with 'oya'. Though you could probably getting away by explaining culturally why the noun for 'life' is also the word used for everything good and motivation*. You wouldn'...

Okay, tumblr is my homebase so I thought: why not have a blog that posts something short in mando'a each day. Nothing educatory or anything. http://tuurycmandoa.tumblr.com/ I allowed anonymous submissions though I think it still means you need to have an account. Hm. Anyway, you can post or pm anyth...

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread
We really need a less clumsy way to say love. Haat! Not sure if riduurok is helping any as it's just for spouses. Shab. Just got another idea which would make the whole thing a non-issue. Mandos don't say 'I love you'. They show. So a short verbal version would be useless. The other would know from...

Re: Passive Voice, Gerunds, and Progressive Verbs
Not quite sure I get you here. XD I can see where it looks like the short questioning form 'What's going on? What do you want?' I think the grammatical constructions are far enough apart not to lead to confusin when used, though. Anyways homophons are a 'problem' in any language. And English has tho...

Re: Passive Voice, Gerunds, and Progressive Verbs
Subjunctive anyone?
I'm tempted to just use 'meh' as a verb prefix parallel to 'ke' or 'ru'.
ni sirbu - I say
ni meh'sirbu - I would say.
Hm, maybe align it a little more to the other prefixes and just make it 'me' or 'm' before a vowel.

Re: Help finding/creating words!
I need a word for 'perfection'.
I have no idea where I got 'balmanda' from. Would that somehow work?
Perfection as something that is very mucht itself that is is actually itself and heaven?
Adjective 'balmandyc'?

I like the oryc idea, Nabterayl.
Avoids confusion with the 'very' aspect of ori. My other idea was to use a comparative without anything to compare, but my inner linguist was crying hard about that.
