Re: Parsing for Mando'a

Well, that's just it - I'm looking at affixes which attach to stems and roots. The reason why I'm looking at the affixes first (especially suffixes at this point) is because I simply can't determine which are the roots just yet. The program I'm using doesn't allow for a simply import of an Excel sh...

Re: Parsing for Mando'a

So, I've been looking at how best to separate the different words on morpheme level. It isn't strictly necessary for the parsing to work, since Mando'a doesn't have that many classic inflections and instead of derivational affixes the words can simply be added as a completed word. This is the easie...

Re: History of Mando'a and Galactic Basic

This is interesting because it makes me think about basic in universe, because it is not actually english, so it is like lotr where they speak common tongue but it is translated to english. So this means that if we knew some parts of the other languages influencing basic like Dromnyr, Bothese, Dure...

Re: Revisiting the Use of Passives in Mando'a

So basically, instead of saying "I was bitten by a dog" you would say "a dog [prefix]bit me"? The main issue I (personally) have with passive voice is that there are very few situations where a sentence in passive voice could not be rephrased to be in active voice. That said, there are times when p...

History of Mando'a and Galactic Basic

Re: Passive Voice, Gerunds, and Progressive Verbs

I gather Munnodol is suggesting introducing a way of indicating that a verb is passive, without rearranging the order of words. So: 'ni edeemir adate' = I bite people would be correct, but 'ni edeemir hadate' would be more accurately translated people are bitten by me . I'm not sure exactly what fu...

Revisiting the Use of Passives in Mando'a

Actually, I believe Passive voice can exist in this language. Using your wookiepedia source, it states that Mando'a lacks a passive verb form, so that means we cannot assign anything to the verb, but what about the object or subject? What I propose is something I call "Hutuun'la Mando'a", or weak ma...
