Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't think of that before I posted my question XD But thank you nonetheless.

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread

Out of curiosity, why would you change it to "te jaon'ne"?

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

I'm back with another question for you all to weigh in on! :) I think we could probably all agree that Kal Skirata, Jango Fett, and Walon Vau are all Mandalorians. But yet, think about how their priorities, personalities, and lives in general were completely different! How much variance, and in what...

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread

It's been awhile, but I don't think I've asked this question before. Since I first got on here, I translated "Eternal glory? Doesn't matter. Always putting your comrades first? The most important." as "Darasuum kote? Wer'cuy. Kartaylir darasuum ner vode? Darasuum te ori'waadasla." in my sig but wond...

Re: On the dar'manda concept

Upon thinking more about it, I think you're right. Plus, I feel like I should balance out my somewhat idealistic view of what it means to be Mandalorian.

Re: On the dar'manda concept

That perspective makes a lot of sense. Kal Skirata wasn't really Mando, besides in name and being raised by Munin Skirata, before he raised the six Null ARC boys, but he was never declared "dar'manda". In this line of thought, that would probably be because there was no one act that removed him from...

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread

I had guessed those from a couple times when I browsed the non-canonical stuff, but I am glad I know it more definitely. It was supposed to be something like "it's my brother's birthday today, and I wanted to wish him happy birthday in Mando'a" then something along the lines of "I wanted to say some...

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread

I figured wishing someone 'happy birthday' was appropriate to bring up here-- and honestly I wanted an excuse to ask about more Mando'a stuff. My possessive word use is pretty clumsy and my verb form use, particularly '-ir', is rather strange. Knowing the proper thought process to make up unknown wo...

Vor'e, vod.

That really helps; I'll keep it on hand next time I'm practicing new Mando'a material.

Re: Dedicated Translation Help Thread

For the purpose of my learning basic sentence structure and, thus, immediately putting any new words I acquire into use; three brief, related questions regarding a translation: 1. Is "I feel the pain of the knife, but my heart is still strong." correct as "Ni aalar bekad aaray, al ner kar'ta cuyir s...

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

Since we are on the subject of the cultures that influenced the Republic Commando Mandalorians, I was wondering specifically which those were. The more detailed and discussed the list is, the better. New here, and still catching up on a few threads. But has anyone looked into the real life cultural ...

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

I feel the same way about most of the concepts you explained. However, although I have vode in the military, I am uncomfortable thinking about an aruetyc government having me at their "beck and call". I interpret it more as "if someone's leading a cause I believe in, I ought to give them all possibl...

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

Alright, how about something more basic: how/why did you (speaking to whomever) first get into this whole Mando thing?

For me it was reading the books by Karen Traviss and being motivated to learn about the character traits promoted by Mandalorians (atin, ruusan, aliit).

Re: Mando Skraan and Recipes

Generally when I cook something, it is good to not ask questions :)

Lucky enough, I am very careful about making sure it is safe to eat, whatever it happens to be. "Nobody said food had to look good to taste good", as they say.

Re: Mando Skraan and Recipes

Sensible. I agree that Mando food is just about practicality.

Balyc, although I know of stew, I am curious about this gumbo stuff; could you elaborate? It is not around where I live, and I am always want to find new tasty mandakarla dishes.

Re: Minas: Dawn of Honesty (D&D 5e adventure)

Sorry, I made that confusing. Skills (example: Nature) add proficiency (+2 at 1st level) and the relevant attribute (in this case, Intelligence) for a total of +3 Nature. Crusty casually checks the passersby, leaning to peer down a side street. We'll wait a few minutes longer for him. Lia pats Cici...

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

Okay, then. I was talking with one of ner vode awhile back about my choice to be Mandalorian, and our conversation got me thinking... How do you think one should practically react to knowledge of Mando culture? Does it make the most sense to you as a person to dive full in by following the resol'nar...

Re: Applying Our Culture Practically

*laughs* I think the closest this thread has gotten to "grand wisdom" would be a few of the posts by Adi'karta. 'Course it was supposed to be more like "there's this bit of Mando philosophy; how does that translate to a real-world action?" From what I have seen, you are one of the most practical peo...
